Ideas on Spoken English Teaching

Jie Zhang

Abstract

This paper takes the position that oral English is becoming increasingly important in contemporary China. It analyses current oral English teaching and puts forward some proper proposals for improving students’ speaking skills. In oral English teaching, teachers should use diff erent methods according to circumstance and encourage students all the time. The class must be student-centred and teachers can use various speaking activities to create a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. These approaches may foster students’ interests in spoken English learning and thus further improve their communicative competence.
