Vocabulary is a fundamental component of the language system and symbol system, and plays an important role in exploring the nature of language.Nonetheless, numerous studies have revealed that many Chinese students lack efficient vocabulary learning strategies, and many educators continue to teach vocabulary using conventional approaches that ignore the cognition of vocabulary learning. The Prototype Category Theory, the basis of cognitive linguistics, offers a new viewpoint for junior high school English vocabulary learning and teaching.
