The Relationship Between College Students’ Future Time Perspective and Employability: The Mediating Role of Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy

MaoGuo Ye, ZhengHua Li

Abstract

This study aims to explore the impact of college students’ Future Time Perspective (FTP) on their Employability and to examine the mediating role of Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy (CDMSE). Grounded in Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT) and Time Perspective Theory, a questionnaire survey was conducted among 420 college students in eastern China. The results reveal that: (1) FTP significantly and positively predicts employability; (2) FTP has a significant positive effect on CDMSE; (3) CDMSE significantly enhances students’ employability; and (4) CDMSE plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between FTP and employability. This study enriches the theoretical application of temporal perspective constructs in the field of career development and provides practical insights for career education in higher education institutions.
