The Evolution, Classification and Enlightenment of TOD Model in America

Abstract

During the 20 years of TOD's birth and development, its significance, goals and models have undergone significant changes. The analysis of TOD's evolution, classification and design principles in the United States is of reference value to the theoretical framework and development of TOD's localization in China. Through the comparison and case study of American TOD models in different periods and types, it is concluded that different types of TOD have the characteristics of centripetal and decentralized differences of community centers sustainable development orientation, equal emphasis on location efficiency and location shaping, etc. Finally, the paper summarizes the development trends of green TOD transportation corridor, the combination of bottom-up development and policy guidance, the focus of TOD development in suburbs, and the dense road network in small streets, etc. for reference in China's TOD planning and development.
