The Predicament of Chinese Folk Literature Translation

Abstract


Folk literature translation is a significant part of literature translation. This paper first analyzes the importance of Chinese folk literature translation, focusing on the untranslatability of Chinese folk literature works, translators’ insufficient attention to the creation of Chinese folk literature translation, the lack of linkage and cooperation mechanism in translation and publication and other predicaments. It also puts forward the following suggestions in order to build a stable bridge for cultural exchanges between China and western countries: to learn more about the original works with the help of field investigation, to encourage translators to participate in the English translation of Chinese folk literature works, to improve the linkage mechanism of translation and publication cooperation and other measures.
