Research on Subtitle Translation Strategies of CultureSpecific Items Under the Theory of Communicative Translation:A Case Study of White Snake

The development of globalization has promoted the exchange of fi lms from diff erent countries,and Chinese fi lms have increasingly entered the international market.However,due to language barriers,most foreign audiences still need to use subtitles to understand the content of movies,and the role of subtitle translation is self-evident.On the other hand,in order for external audiences to bridge the gap between Chinese and Western languages and cultural diff erences,and to correctly understand the content of the fi lm,it is necessary to improve the translation quality of culture-specifi c items in the subtitles.Build on previous studies,this article discusses the principles of Chinese fi lm subtitle translation and subtitle translation strategies,such as economic benefi t strategies,equivalent strategies,etc.,starting from Newmark’s communicative translation theory.The analysis in this article can serve as a reference for the translation strategy of culture-specifi c items in subtitles.
