Mingyan Shen

Abstract

The word “context” appeareds 110 times in “English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School”, which shows the importance of its role in senior high school English education. Malinowski, a Polish linguist, first put forward “situational context” in his works in 1923, which refers to a variety of realistic situations in the process of speech production. He put forward two concepts: “situation” and “culture”. From the perspective of unit teaching, the cultural background in the topic background is objective, and “situational context” is helpful to improve learners’understanding of language and pragmatic ability. With the deepening of the new curriculum reform, the teaching concept has also changed accordingly. English teaching is no longer based on grammar, but pays more attention to the cultivation of language skills. In the context of unit theme, teachers can make reasonable teaching plans and adopt diversifi ed teaching methods according to the actual situation of students to help students improve their English vocabulary learning effect
