The Nihilism in Brideshead Revisited

Abstract


As one of the renowned English writers, Evelyn Waugh (1903-1966) has been regarded as one of the most prolific and most satiric literary masters in the twentieth century. His most controversial novel Brideshead Revisited (1945) was written during his military service. Nihilism, the rejection of historical tradition and moral principles, pervades the whole novel. This essay aims to analyze the nihilism in this novel.
