Xuqian Li, Jing Liu

Abstract

Career adaptability has become a crucial competency for vocational school students to respond to the dynamic changes in modern labor markets. This paper applies Career Construction Theory to interpret how vocational education can foster adaptability among students. Based on the development of vocational underg raduate education in China, the literature on students’ career development, we conceptualize career adaptability as an integrated system involving concern, control, curiosity, and confidence. Our results show that career adaptability enhancement should be embedded in student-oriented pedagogy, reflective learning, and career development education. It offers innovative insights into constructing a developmental pathway for vocational students and aligns with China’s transformation toward high-quality and innovation-driven education.
