The Importance of Training and Development for an Organization

Abstract


Training and development are core components of organizational human resource management (HRM), which are interrelated yet distinct. Training focuses on current job requirements and improves employees’ attitudes, skills, and knowledge through planned learning activities; while development focuses on long-term growth and taps the potential capabilities of individuals and organizations. This paper systematically sorts out the definitions and differences between training and development, and expounds the multiple values of training for employees and employers from the aspects of attracting talents, improving productivity, promoting innovation, enhancing employee motivation, and maintaining corporate competitiveness. Meanwhile, it analyzes the key roles of development in tapping organizational potential, responding to changes, and building organizational culture. The research shows that training and development not only improve the quality of human resources and organizational performance, but also achieve a win-win situation between employees’ personal growth and enterprises’ sustainable development. They serve as an important support for organizations to maintain advantages in the fi erce market competition.
