The Embodiment of Humanistic Spirit in Mozart’s Operas
Abstract
The humanistic spirit in Mozart’s operas serves as the core cipher that unlocks the timeless resonance of his artistic legacy. With music as his pen, he broke through the shackles of the feudal hierarchy in 18th-century Europe and turned his attention to “human” essence in his works such as “Le nozze di Figaro” and “Don Giovanni”: whether it is the wisdom and dignity of the servants at the bottom, the game between individual desires and morality, or the emotional resonance among different classes, all pulsate with warmth through vivid characters and agile melodies. This profound contemplation of human essence and interrogation of egalitarian values, transcending mere artistic projection of the Enlightenment ideals, have crystallized into a spiritual compass for interpreting “human” —his humanistic core still resonating in contemporary reality.
