The Influence of the Reform of Physical Education in Colleges and Universities on the Improvement of Students’ Physical Literacy

Ke Lian

Abstract

Reforming university physical education is pivotal for cultivating students’ physical literacy. This study investigates how pedagogical innovations shape such literacy by mapping reform initiatives to improvements across teaching philosophy, curriculum structure, instructional practice, and assessment systems. Results show that reforms advance motor competence, spark interest in sport, heighten health awareness, and encourage lifelong activity. Yet constraints persist: limited resources, underdeveloped evaluation tools, and weak student engagement. The paper recommends refining curricula, adopting inventive teaching strategies, and strengthening assessment protocols, offering practical guidance for furthering higher-education physical education reform.
