A Review of the Relationship Between Foreign Language Anxiety, Competence, and Learning Motivation in the Past Decade

Abstract

Foreign Language Anxiety(FLA), Competence, and Learning Motivation are core variables in SLA psychological mechanism research. Their interaction affects learning outcomes and psychological development. Despite increased research on FLA’s moderating role following the “affective turn” in SLA, limitations in perspectives and inconsistencies in mechanism interpretation persist. This review systematically examines past-decade studies, clarifies core concepts and dimensions, analyzes moderating mechanisms, differences, and influencing factors, summarizes consensus and disagreements, and provides a reference for theory and practice.
