The Study of Polysemy in Modern Chinese from the Perspective of Cognitive Semantics

Wanling Guo

Abstract

Polysemy is common in different languages, and Chinese is no exception. Although one word for one meaning is the most ideal language state, too many vocabularies will increase the difficulty of language learning; although polysemy is easy to produce ambiguity, it has more advantages than disadvantages for language learning and application. The study of polysemy in cognitive semantics rises from the simple level of language to the level of cognition, and it is believed that the study of polysemy can start from the prototype theory to analyze the meaning category, and it is also believed that the presentation of polysemy is inextricably related to the cognitive mode.
