“Seeking Common Ground While Reserving Differences” of Culture——Reading Zhang Longxi’s Ten Treatises on the Study of Chinese and Western Cultures

Xiaoxia Wang

Abstract

A Book of Treatises on the Study of Chinese and Western Cultures by Zhang Longxi, discusses the author’s views on
the study and exchange of Chinese and Western cultures from the perspectives of history, linguistics, hermeneutics, poetics and
other different theories: the differences between the self and non self of Chinese and Western cultures are positive, but at the
same time of recognizing the differences, we should refuse to overemphasize the differences and negate the “Western culture”.
On the basis of this theory, we should seek common points and carry out dialogue.
