Pragmatic Analysis of Euphemisms in the Film Forrest Gump

Abstract


This paper takes the film, Forrest Gump, as an example and employs the Cooperative Principles and the Politeness Principles as the theoretical framework, trying to explore the pragmatic analysis of euphemisms in the film. The author attempts to answer the two research questions: ① How euphemisms can present characters’ personalities or social backgrounding in Forrest Gump? ② What effect could achieve when the Cooperative Principles and the Politeness Principles work together?
