The Politeness Reflected in Haidilao Service from the Perspective of the Politeness Principle

Abstract


Haidilao, a worldwide influential catering service company, is famous for its warm and thoughtful service. This linguistics research aims to collect and translate corpus through the field research, select six representative dialogue scenes from it, and analyze the politeness that Haidilao’s employees reflect in service through the six maxims of the Politeness Principle (PP) of pragmatics, so as to study the positive role of politeness in the catering industry. The research shows that Haidilao does have a wide application of the pragmatics’ Politeness Principle, and it can be adjusted according to different situations to meet customers’ needs. Through the principles of linguistics, it is the embodiment of politeness in the Chinese service industry, showing respect and humanistic care to customers. It also has significant enlightenment for the future development of the catering industry direction from the linguistics perspective. Furthermore, it provides the norms of polite behavior in daily life, which has a great educational significance in the development of positive interpersonal relationships.
