Prevalence, Socio-Demographic and Psychological Factors Correlate to Mental Health Problems in Chinese Adolescents

Ruijie Feng

Abstract

According to World Health Organization’s 2021 report, an estimated one in seven  adolescents aged 10-19 suffer from mental health problems in the world (WHO, 2021). Some mental illnesses such as depression and loneliness are the main reasons they engage in self-harming and suicidal attempts. Additionally, primary mental health issues usually start in adolescence and are essential to address early to prevent the development of more severe psychiatric disorders in adulthood.
