Research on English Writing Teaching from the Perspective of the Appraisal Theory

Abstract


Appraisal theory is the extension of interpersonal function in systemic functional linguistics. Appraisal resources are the core of interpersonal meaning in discourse. The correct use of appraisal resources plays an important role in the realization of interpersonal meaning in discourse. On the basis of understanding the evaluation meaning system of interpersonal function, students can form good writing habits in evaluating semantic topic expression, semantic coherence, direct or indirect expression of ideas, etc. So as to better grasp the interpersonal function of language evaluation and improve their writing ability. Based on the framework of the appraisal theory, this paper will explore and study its application in College English writing teaching.
