Teaching the Gifted in the Mixed Ability Classroom

Abstract


The purpose of this essay is going to demonstrate the methods and techniques of teaching gifted students in the mixed ability classroom. In the introduction part, the author found definitions of giftedness and gifted students from previous research studies to define the two conceptions. Then, the author introduces methods of enrichment and grouping and also illustrates the advantages and disadvantages of different methods of enrichment and grouping. The author also shares his own coaching experience of utilizing “full inclusion” and “cluster grouping” in table tennis class and gives suggestions to other table tennis coaches or coaches of other similar sports to select an optimal grouping method in a particular teaching process. The necessity and importance of the teacher training program of gifted education are also illustrated by the author.
