Development and Artistic Value of New Year Pictures
Abstract
New Year pictures are a widely distributed and diversified art form in Chinese folk art. They are mainly posted at the Lunar New Year, the Spring Festival, to express the people's wishes for celebrating the New Year and happiness. New Year pictures are not only the setting off and atmosphere rendering of the New Year and folk customs, but also the carrier of cultural circulation, moral education, and aesthetic communication. They are also an ideal sustenance and special words for the people to beautify their lives, bid farewell to the old and welcome the new, punish the evil and promote the good, and accept the good. In the long historical development process, New Year pictures have accumulated unique artistic value.
