Investigating Parenting Diffi culties:Refl ections on an Interview Based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Method

Abstract


Parenting is considered to be a complex and even stressful practices for parents, especially for those whose children are in puberty and start to show independence and disobedience. The challenges and diffi culties parents encounters during parenting process and their feelings of stress may lead to serious psychological dysfunctions in parents.However,various research in the fi eld of psychology and education has proved that interventions such as counseling services and psycho education can alleviate symptoms of psychological distress in parents and promote positive parenting.In this article,the researcher conducted an interview based on the cognitive behavioral therapy method of counseling with a parent of an adolescent in order to help the parent deeply refl ect on diffi culties she encountered and negative emotions she generated during educating her child, and meanwhile investigate possible solutions for her problems and improve the parent-child relationship in the family.
