Refl ection on Teacher Language Awareness Based on Longman Activate JS 2 Grammar Books

Abstract


As Andrews (2007) asserted, language awareness (LA), or knowledge about language (KAL), is one of the attributes that a good teacher should possess. According to Thornbury (1997), teacher language awareness (TLA) is the language knowledge,especially the subject knowledge, possessing good TLA enables teachers to teach eff ectively, while Andrews (2007) further stated that TLA is both science and art due to its dependence on teachers’ explicit language knowledge as well as their implicit knowledge about learners needs and various learning styles. Good TLA may have signifi cant impact on both teachers and learners. This essay will refl ect on the TLA based on Longman Activate JS 2 Grammar Books and grammar teaching practice on conditionals to explore the impact of TLA on teachers’ grammar teaching practice.
