Jinge Li

Abstract

Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is a classic work in the history of English literature. The novel not only attracted readers at that time, but still gives readers a unique artistic enjoyment today. The novel has been widely appreciated for its beautiful writing and unique character description. However, there are relatively few studies to analyze the work from the perspective of English rhetoric, so this study aims to make a comprehensive appreciation of Pride and Prejudice by using the theoretical framework of English rhetoric. The purpose of this thesis is to explore the influence of rhetorical devices, image expression and language style on plot development and characterization, so as to better understand and appreciate the work. At the same time, it also has certain reference significance for the study and teaching of English rhetoric. Moreover, Austen used many rhetorical techniques, with a high degree of artistic consciousness, to cast a more mature rhetorical art, and applied it to the portrayal of characters, and integrated it into the whole design of the work, making Pride and Prejudice a rare treasure in the world library.
