Toni Morrison was the fi rst African American writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. In her writing, she focused on the blood and tears of African American survival, struggle, and development, selecting fragmented history for novelization, exploring the trauma of marginalized African American groups, and actively participating in historical reshaping. Her works showed a strong new historicism.
The background of Sula was set in the period from post-World War I to the African American civil rights movement and the second wave of women’s liberation movement in the United States. The book depicted the lives of the “Bottom” people in the African American community who suff ered from racial and gender discrimination. This article studied the image of African American soldiers in the book from the perspective of new historicism, revealing their awkward and tragic living conditions after fi ghting for the country and integrating into the white mainstream society. It pointed out that Morrison’ s creative concept of writing “little people” actively participating in the reshaping of marginalized group history and dissolving center ideology.

This essay examines the character of Malvolio in Shakespeare’s play “Twelfth Night” in relation to the historical and cultural context of Puritanism in Elizabethan England. Malvolio’s puritanical behaviour and ultimate downfall serve as a vehicle for Shakespeare to satirize the rigid moral code of Puritanism and its perceived threat to established themes. The essay discusses the defi nition of Puritanism and its opposition to theatre, as well as the historical background of Elizabethan England, which heavily infl uenced Shakespeare’s portrayal of Malvolio. In addition, it analyses how Malvolio’s character represents the Puritan threat to the themes of love and life attitude in the play. Ultimately, the essay argues that Malvolio serves as an icon throughout the play, refl ecting the puritanism confl ict against the play’s themes and values.

This study focuses on the theme of the trade war and builds a political discourse corpus on the Chinese-U.S. trade war. It examines the characteristics and patterns of the use of stance markers (hereafter referred to as “SMs”) by both China and the United States, and analyzes the diff erences in the use of SMs in fi ve categories: vague SMs, forceful SMs, attitudinal SMs, manner SMs, and authorial SMs. The study found that the frequency of SMs used by both China and the United States follows the pattern of forceful SMs > authorial SMs > attitudinal SMs > vague SMs > manner SMs. In addition, there are signifi cant diff erences between China and the United States in the use of vague SMs, forceful SMs, attitudinal SMs, and authorial SMs, but not in the use of manner SMs. Based on the data from the Chinese-U.S. trade war corpus, this paper aims to enrich the study of SMs in political discourse, increase foreign language learners’ understanding of SMs in political discourse, and thereby better grasp the discourse characteristics of political discourse.

The pragmatic failure in students’ oral communication, especially involving intercultural communication, is inevitable in their junior middle school age. This course paper tries to discuss and analyze the causes of the frequent pragmatic failures in their oral communication for three aspects of cultural differences, negative transfer of L1 and lacking of pragmatic knowledge. And then some practical suggestions for teachers’ instruction to reduce students’ pragmatic failures and improve students’ pragmatic competence are put forward. First, teachers need create more real communicating context and increasing authentic input. Meanwhile, teacher should integrate culture instruction closely with language program instruction. Lastly, pragmatic knowledge should be infiltrated in class.

The purposes of this study were to (1) study the current situation of practical teaching quality management in Beihai University of Art and Design and (2) study development guide for practical teaching quality management for design majors of Beihai University of Art and Design. In order to carry out relevant research, mixed methodology is adopted, namely, qualitative research and quantitative research. Firstly, the research tool is designed by using the literature analysis method and the CIPP education evaluation theory, and the Index of Item Objective Congruence: IOC is tested by Expert Sampling. A total of 400 questionnaires were distributed this time. After removing 26 unfi nished questionnaires, a total of 374 complete questionnaires were obtained, with an eff ective recovery rate of 93.5%. SPSPRO is used for data analysis, and the average value and standard deviation are used for analysis. An open-ended questionnaire survey was conducted among 8 university managers and teachers.

The complete mitochondrial genome of Idiocerus koreanus Matsumura, 1915 (Hemiptera, Cicadellidae) was described, which was 15, 594 bp in length, encoding the standard set of 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), two ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs), 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs) and one A-T rich region (also called control region). The content of A+T was 76.4% (A: 44.3%, T: 32.1%, C: 13.9%, G: 9.6%), which was much higher than that of G+C. The complete mitochondrial genome of I. koreanus and the other 22 species were used for phylogenetic analysis using the Bayesian method. The phylogenetic tree visualized that I. koreanus and species from the same subfamily were clustered in one branch, which was closely related to Metidiocerus sp.. The identifi ed mitochondrial genome of I. koreanus in Inner Mongolia China will provide fundamental data to explore the evolution of the mitochondrial genome in Idiocerinae.

Online teaching has become a brand new teaching model for schools in China in the past two years as the novel coronavirus has swept across the country. During the online teaching period, we found that mental health protection has become an important line of defense for the safety of all students. Primary school students study at home, on the one hand anxiety virus infection, on the other hand parent-child relationship also have to face the severe test, the children’s mental health safety at this moment needs to cause enough attention.
During the online teaching period, we have conducted many family education questionnaires and carried out a series of psychological counseling activities. In practice, we found that students’ mental health and safety is particularly important.
